DFC Todd A. Smith responded to the Dunkirk area of Md. Rt. 4 on March 3 at 1:09 in the morning to investigate a possible drunk driver called in by another motorist after the vehicle was observed traveling south in the northbound lanes.
DFC Smith located the suspect vehicle traveling eastbound on Md. Rt. 260 in Owings and made a traffic stop. The driver, Kyle Knight, 38 of Leesburg, had a strong odor of alcohol and displayed other symptoms of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
He became uncooperative and was sprayed with OC spray for the officer’s safety, handcuffed and charged with resisting arrest, hindering a police officer, negligent driving and driving under the influence.
