WALDORF, Md.— The Southern Maryland Youth Baseball and Softball Coalition is proud to announce a premier professional development opportunity for area coaches. In collaboration with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs and the Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics (CAO), the coalition will host a FREE Coaches Clinic at Regency Furniture Stadium on Sunday, July 19 at 9am.
The event is designed to equip local volunteer and travel coaches with elite-level insights to enhance player development and safety for the upcoming season. Attendees will hear directly from Southern Maryland Blue Crabs Manager Brett Jodie, alongside experts from CAO Physical Therapy & Sports Performance Center who will focus on critical topics such as arm care, injury prevention, and proper stretching routines.
“Our goal has always been to elevate the standard of play across Southern Maryland by supporting the men and women in the third-base box,” said RJ Bean, representative of the Southern Maryland Youth Baseball and Softball Coalition. “Partnering with the Blue Crabs and CAO allows us to bridge the gap between professional expertise and our local youth fields. It’s going to be an epic day of learning and community at the ballpark.”
The clinic will feature established stations focused heavily on particular divisions, ensuring that coaches of all age groups receive tailored instruction. To ensure the physical longevity of young athletes, CAO will lead sessions specifically dedicated to the mechanics of health.
“Player health and longevity start with education at the coaching level,” said Alec Sharr of CAO Physical Therapy & Sports Performance Center. “We are excited to share our specialized knowledge on arm care and functional movement to ensure these athletes stay on the field and perform at their absolute best. Supporting the community that supports us is at the core of what we do at CAO.”
Following the instructional portion of the day, the event transitions into a celebration of the game. Participating families can take advantage of discounted tickets for the afternoon’s Blue Crabs game, featuring exclusive experiences where kids can play catch with professional players on the field and create player tunnels for the team.
“The Blue Crabs are a community-first organization, and there is no better way to give back than by hosting the next generation of coaches and players,” said Christian Heimall, General Manager of the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. “Opening our doors for this clinic allows us to share the knowledge of Manager Brett Jodie and our staff while giving the kids a unique professional experience they’ll never forget. We can’t wait to see the stadium filled with the future of Maryland baseball.”
