At 9:44 a.m. Oct. 28, Officer Y. Austin of the Charles County Sheriffโ€™s Office observed a vehicle on Mattawoman-Beantown Road in Waldorf displaying tags issued to another vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop.

The driver did not stop and fled into a driveway and across a field. Officer Austin broadcast a description of the vehicle to responding officers. Officer Evans observed the vehicle in the 3700 block of Leonardtown Road and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The vehicle fled into a parking lot, jumped a curb and exited onto Leonardtown Road.

Cpl. Moody observed the vehicle traveling south on St. Charles Parkway, and Cpl. D. Willis deployed โ€œstopsticksโ€ to destroy the carโ€™s tires at the intersection of St. Charles Parkway and Post Office Road.

The vehicle attempted to avoid striking the stopsticks, struck Cpl. Willisโ€™ cruiser and fled to Copley Avenue.
Sgt. Gregory deployed stopsticks at Copley Avenue and Barksdale Avenue. The suspect stopped his vehicle and was arrested.

The suspect is identified as Davis Allen Hancock, 39, of Colonial Beach, Va. Hancock was charged with numerous traffic violations, including driving with a suspended license, and was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the district court commissioner.
