LEONARDTOWN, Md. — Early this morning, crews were dispatched to reports of a small fire in a Breton Bay townhouse.

At approximately 3:40 a.m. on April 4, the Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department responded to the 40000 block of Breton View Drive. Upon arrival, units discovered a light smoke coming from the middle of a small grouping of three-story townhouses.

After entering the property, firefighters discovered a small fire coming from an unfinished utility closet in the basement. Crews were able to quickly contain the fire.

The Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department later took to Facebook to advise people to check their smoke alarms, because that is what alerted the homeowners in this instance.

So remember to check those batteries!
