Supporting a Mission That Feeds Southern Maryland
Founded in 2012 by Bernie Fowler Jr., Farming 4 Hunger was created to help families gain better access to fresh, nutritious food.
After experiencing personal struggles and witnessing the challenges many families faced, Fowler realized that food banks often relied heavily on canned and boxed goods while access to fresh produce remained limited. At the same time, many local farmers were struggling to make ends meet.
Determined to create a better solution, Fowler built a network of partnerships that connects farms, volunteers, and community organizations to grow and distribute healthy food throughout Southern Maryland.
Today, Farming 4 Hunger grows and distributes more than one million pounds of locally grown fresh food each year, serving families across the region.
The organization works alongside:
- Local farms
- Churches and schools
- Local businesses
- The Maryland Food Bank
- The Department of Corrections
- A large network of dedicated community volunteers
Together, these partnerships help ensure fresh fruits and vegetables reach families who need them most.
