An accidental fire Saturday afternoon caused by an electrical malfunction in a center console caused extensive damage to a boat parked at a home in Newburg. The fire at 13885 Loyd Point Farm Road caused $30,000 damage to the 21-foot Kencraft center console boat owned by George and Diane Bliss.

According to Deputy Fire Marshal Caryn McMahon of the Maryland State Fire Marshalโ€™s Office, โ€œThe fire was discovered after the home owner heard a loud noise and looked outside to find smoke coming from the boat. They called 911 to alert the FD, who responded and was able to extinguish the fire before it extended to a nearby boat and other structures. There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire.โ€

It took 43 volunteer firefighters from Newburg, Bel Alton, Cobb Island and Dahlgren, VA 10 minutes to bring the blaze under control.
