On January 5th 2012 officers and members of the St. Maryโ€™s County Elks Lodge #2092 visited the Hospice House of St. Maryโ€™s to present Director Kathryn Franzen a donation of $4,000 towards the costs associated with caring for terminally ill members of our community.ย

Every year the St. Maryโ€™s County Elks Lodge holds a Charity Ball open to the public usually in the month of October to raise money for a charitable cause.ย  Last year, a check of $20,000 was presented to the Wounded Warrior project.ย  That was the result of a 2 year campaign where several events funded by corporate sponsorships were conducted which allowed the Elks to capitalize on the monetary donations received resulting in a much higher amount to be donated.ย

The St. Maryโ€™s County Elks is a non-profit organization made up of American citizens who volunteer their time towards supporting our veterans, children, and local communities.ย  The Elks are second only to the United States Government in contributing towards scholarship funds every year.ย  On average the Elks donate around 3.6 million dollars annually nationwide towards scholarships.ย

The St. Maryโ€™s County Elks support the veterans of Charlotte Hall Veteranโ€™s Home on a regular basis.ย  Every Friday, volunteers of the Elks prepare a wonderful dinner and an open invitation is always provided to the Veterans of Charlotte Hall free of charge.ย  On January 7th of this year the Elks of St. Maryโ€™s Count visited the Charlotte Hall Veterans home and provided a pizza social and companionship for the assisted living veterans of the home.ย  A check of $1000 was presented to Charlotte Hall Veterans Home as well as needed supplies, games, puzzles, etc.ย

On a regular basis the St. Maryโ€™s County Elks Lodge is doing something to support our local community whether it is a donation to a family with a hardship or volunteering time to help the Marines with their Toys for Tots program, the Elks do whatever it takes to make a difference in our local community.ย

They are currently preparing to help with the Christmas in April project coming up in a few months but they are always working on our own programs such as drug awareness, supporting our veterans, raising money for scholarship funds, and running a summer camp near Annapolis Maryland called Camp Barrett.ย  This camp is completely free for children in the Maryland/Delaware/DC area to attend.ย  It provides children the opportunity to experience the outdoors in a safe environment at no cost whatsoever to their parents.ย
