A TAVOLA CON ELLYNNE IN ITALIA
DAYTRIP TO CHIOGGIA
On June 22, 2013, weโd already been in Italy for 9 days, and still had 5 remaining. Why would we go to Chioggia? Well, weโd been almost every place else in the area that weโd had our hearts set on seeing: sights in and around Venice such at St. Markโs Basilica, the Grand Canal, the Manet exhibit held in the Palazzo Ducale, the Rialto Bridge, plus the islands of Murano, Torcello, and San Michele, as well sights on the island of Lido where we were staying (the beach, the St. Nicolo Basilica).ย But the big questions are:ย Whyย would weย reallyย go to Chioggia?ย Whereย (in the world)ย isย Chioggia?ย Howย (in the world) did we get there?ย Whatย was there to see in Chioggia? And did we have a good time once we got there?
Well, here are some reasons why we went to Chioggia: Our trustworthyย Lonely Planet Italyย guidebook describes Chioggia as the second-most important city in the lagoon after Venice. It is known for its quaint fishing village setting and marinasโฆand for its wonderful seafood. It was recommended as a lovely day trip by our B&B. And our friend Leslie Genninger, owner and designer of the best bead shop in Venice,ย Genninger Studio, told us that if we went to Chioggia, we would find great sea glass and pottery on the beach when we passed through Pellestrina on the way. (That was all the incentive we needed! Note: Ms. Genningerโs shop is listed in theย Frommerโs Guidebookย Suzy Gershmanโs Born to Shop Italy, and that is how we originally found it in 2012. For more information you may contactย www.GENNINGERSTUDIO.com.)
