Patuxent Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors Member Don Parsons referenced the early spring rain that intruded on the groundbreaking ceremony for a new home on Mason Road in Prince Frederick. โAnother rainy dayโat least this time we have a roof over our heads,โ said Parsons at the start of the houseโs dedication ceremony Tuesday, Nov. 26.

The Ward Family Home was the local organizationโs second dedication in four days. The family, Linda Ward, her daughter Elleasha, and her grandsons Elโjae and Izayah, were commended by board member Larry Miller for their participation in the building project. โThey walked the walk,โ said Miller.
โFrom day one we did everything,โ said Ward, who indicated in addition to a sturdy, three-level house, the family benefitted from working with Habitatโs many experienced volunteers. โI learned a lot of things. It was a wonderful experience.โ
โThese houses are really put together,โ Miller exclaimed.ย Patuxent Habitat listed 32 โcovenant business partners, including construction firms, developers, hardware stores, carpenters, interior designers, a plumber and an electrician.
โThe government funded this project, thatโs never happened before,โ said Miller, who pointed out Calvert County Government helped procure a Community Development Block Grant from the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development. โItโs a true community effort.โ
Since 2003, 19 families in Calvert and St. Maryโs counties have been aided by Patuxent Habitat for Humanity.
After a ribbon-cutting ceremonyโheld in the living room due to the ever-ubiquitous rain outsideโPatuxent Habitat founder John Wagner spoke about the organizationโs decade of dedication.ย โItโs really a ministry to the community,โ said Ward, who added the Weems family of Lusby, the first area family to receive aid from the local Habitat, are still involved with the various projects.
โOnce people become Habitat families they become part of our family,โ Parsons said.
As dedication attendeesโincluding two Calvert County commissioners, local government officials and Ward family friendsโtoured the home and enjoyed food from Mission
