GREAT MILLS, Md. – On March 29, 2021 at approximately 10:36 a.m., firefighters responded to the house fire at 20637 Flat Iron Road in the area of Ryan Road in Great Mills.

Crews first on the scene reported a large abandoned house fully involved. Brush units were requested to the scene, for a woods fire near the incident resulting from blowing embers. 

Units reporting at 11:03 a.m., three small brush fires surrounding the house fire have been extinguished. Firefighters searched for hot spots. The fire was under control in approximately 30 minutes. No injuries have been reported.

Over 40 firefighters from Valley Lee, Bay District, Leonardtown, Hollywood, and NAS Patuxent River responded to the scene. Deputy State Fire Marshals have been notified to investigate the cause.

The Deputy State Fire Marshals investigation reveals the fire originated from the interior of house. The fire remains under investigation. The estimated structure loss value at $5,000.00.
