The Maryland State Fire Marshal is investigating a fire which consumed a boat, pier and boathouse at 13347 Hill Road, Cobb Island in Charles County June 10 at 10:48 a.m.
The 22-foot Shamrock boat and boathouse at the pier belonging to James Crampton were destroyed, a property loss of $25,000, according to Deputy Fire Marshal John Nelson.
The blaze took 33 volunteer firefighters from Cobb Island, Newburg, Bel Alton and La Plata 10 minutes to bring under control.
The fire was determined to be accidental after a work light being used fell and came into contact with ignitable liquids.
The boat, along with the boathouse and the pier alongside of the boat, were all destroyed.
Crampton sustained minor burns when the fire erupted in the boat. He was treated and released at the scene.
