Group home fire in California MD
UPDATE 8/28/2017- St. Mary’s County, MD (August 28, 2017) — The Office of the State Fire Marshal has concluded an investigation into a house fire with the arrest of a 19-year-old occupant of the home.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  The incident originally occurred on August 22, 2017, at approximately 12:50 a.m. at 23820 N. Patuxent Beach Road.ย  Firefighters from Bay District and surrounding volunteer fire departments responded to a kitchen fire that resulted in nearly $75,000 in damage to the structure and contents. Twenty-seven firefighters brought the blaze under control within 30 minutes. The property owned by ‘Pathways of St. Mary’s County’ was occupied by two residents who had both escaped without injury.
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  The subsequent investigation revealed one of the occupants, Tayvone Emmanuel Warren (19), was responsible for intentionally igniting the fire with combustibles placed on the stovetop which then spread to the rest of the kitchen.ย  Smoke and soot spread throughout the remainder of the one story single family home.ย  Warren was transported to the St. Mary’s County MedStar Hospital on an Emergency Petition on the night of the fire for evaluation.ย  He was placed into custody upon his release today and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center without incident.ย  Warren has been charged with 1st Degree Arson and Reckless Endangerment and is awaiting a bond review.


California, MD – A fire at a group home in St. Maryโ€™s County was reported shortly after midnight Tuesday, Aug. 22 and state investigators believe the blaze was deliberately set. The fire occurred on North Patuxent Beach Road in California, originated in the one-story homeโ€™s kitchen and was discovered by an occupant, the Maryland State Fire Marshalโ€™s Office reported.

โ€œThere were two occupants in the group home,โ€ a deputy fire marshal reported. โ€œBoth escaped without injury and are being assisted by Pathways of St. Maryโ€™s County.โ€ That organization owns the home.

Twenty-seven firefighters were dispatched to the one-alarm blaze and brought the flames under control in 30 minutes. Damage is estimated at $75,000. Investigators said charges are pending.
