On Monday, Jan. 25 the property manger of Spyglass Apartments in Hermanville contacted an off-duty St. Maryโ€™s County Sheriff’s Deputy after observing four men on the beach withย a weapon. The deputy responded and confronted the men on the beach, identified herself as law enforcement and ordered the men to put down the weapon.ย

The men refused to comply. The officer advised several more times to drop the gun, the men hopped into a red Ford Taurus and fled the scene. The deputy followed the suspects in her police cruiser. The fleeing men pulled into a parking lot on Pickettโ€™s Harbor Court where there was no way out. After the deputy pulled close to the suspect’s vehicle, theย driver tried to ram her cruiser and escape.ย

Additionalย officers arrived on the scene and joined the attempt to apprehend the men. Because it was not known what type of weapon the men possessed or if there were other weapons involved, the decision was made to initiate a high-risk stop at which time, the four suspects were detained.

Arrested at the scene were Terrance A. Scottland, 19, Travis L. Briscoe, 18, Lamont A. White, 20 and David L. Briscoe, 20. Travis Briscoe was cited for an alcohol offense, for possessing alcohol under the age of 21.ย

David Briscoe, the driver, was charged with fleeing and eluding an officer of the law and cited with other traffic violations. Terrance Scottland was found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana. Other charges may be pending.

A BB gun was recovered and confiscated at the scene.
