WALDORF, Md. — A Southern Maryland community is rallying around a local family after a devastating house fire left them displaced and without their belongings last weekend.
The King family lost their home and nearly everything inside following a fire reported on April 12, 2026, in the 2000 block of Rosewood Drive in Waldorf. The blaze forced five occupants from the home and caused significant damage, estimated at $200,000 to the structure and an additional $100,000 to its contents.
Since the fire, friends, neighbors, and community members have come together to support the family through an online fundraiser aimed at helping them recover and rebuild.
According to the fundraiser, the family was left with only the clothes they were wearing at the time of the fire. The campaign highlights the impact of the loss and calls on the community to assist with immediate needs such as clothing, food, and temporary housing.
The fundraiser also notes that Josh King, a well-known local soccer coach, has long been a positive presence in the community, dedicating his time to mentoring young athletes and supporting local families.
“Josh has always been there for his players and neighbors,” the fundraiser states. “Now, it’s our turn to show up for him and his family.”
Fire officials previously reported that the blaze originated in an outside firepit or deck area before spreading to the home. Approximately 40 firefighters responded to the single-alarm incident, bringing it under control in about 30 minutes.
Two firefighters were injured while battling the fire. One was treated at the scene, while the other was transported to a hospital for evaluation and later released.
The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced family as they work to recover.
Community members interested in supporting the King family can contribute through the online fundraiser, where organizers say any donation—big or small—will help the family move forward during this difficult time.
