MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — A Mechanicsville family is mourning the loss of a 1-year-old girl who died after a sudden medical emergency just two days after she was brought home following a year of serious medical challenges.

A GoFundMe has been started to help cover funeral and memorial expenses for Savi, whose family said she was born with congenital diaphragmatic hernia, a serious condition that required her to spend her entire first year in the NICU at Children’s Hospital.

According to the fundraiser, Savi endured numerous procedures, medical episodes and multiple surgeries during her first year of life. Her family described her as strong, resilient and deeply loved by those who followed her journey.

On Monday, May 18, 2026, Savi was brought home — a moment her family said they had prayed and hoped for through months of uncertainty and hardship.

“Having her home filled our hearts with so much joy and hope,” the family wrote on the fundraiser page.

Two days later, on Wednesday, May 20, Savi died after a sudden medical emergency, according to the GoFundMe.

The fundraiser was organized by Nina Wyatt of Mechanicsville to help the family with funeral and memorial costs. The family said the past year brought overwhelming emotional and financial hardship, and donations will go directly toward giving Savi a loving farewell.

“We are deeply grateful to everyone who has supported, prayed for, and loved Savi throughout her journey,” the family wrote. “This has been the hardest year of our lives, and while her fight has come to an end, the love she brought into this world will stay with us forever.”
