ย ย ย  Gov. Bob Ehrlich made stops in Hughesville and Bel Alton Tuesday, to highlight construction of the Rt. 5 Hughesville bypass and ceremoniously award state grants to two Charles County agencies.

ย ย ย  During a 10-minute visit, Ehrlich met area political officials and media on top of an overpass under construction for the Hughesville bypass project. The governor thanked construction workers at the sight and made a few comments as to the long-overdue need for the Hughesville bypass.

ย ย ย  At Bel Alton less than an hour later, Ehrlich was standing in front of the Bel Alton School Alumni Association Community Development Corporation (CDC) building thanking the CDC and Jude House Inc. for their hard work. He then posed for pictures while handing over TV game show-sized checks to the agencies.

ย ย ย  Jude House Inc., a substance abuse treatment center, is set to receive $205,000 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to partly pay for facility improvements. The Bel Alton CDC is focused on providing employment and business ownership opportunities for low-income residents in the area; they are to receive $190,400 in CDBG money to help pay for facility improvements.
