Annapolis, MD – December 31, 2019 – As we begin a new year and a new decade, I’m filled with hope for the future and optimism that together we will continue changing Maryland for the better.
Our state has never been stronger than it is today.
We’ve spent the past five years working across the aisle and making historic progress. More businesses are open and more people are working than ever before in Maryland history, and we have had one of the best economic turnarounds in America. We have some of the best and highly funded schools in America. We’re making record investments to transform our transportation infrastructure, and the Chesapeake Bay is cleaner than it has been in recorded history.
And while we still have a lot of work ahead of us, we can face the challenges of the coming year with the knowledge that together we have already faced, and overcome, more daunting challenges before.
When I was first sworn in as your governor, I said that no problem faces us that hard work, honesty, and courage cannot solve if we work together. That remains as true today, and it will be as true in the year ahead, as it was then.
There has not been a single day, good or bad, over the past five years when I was not grateful for the privilege of serving as your governor. Because of the trust that you have placed in me, I pledge to you that I will keep giving this job everything I’ve got in the coming year and every single day that I am given.
