ANNAPOLIS, MD โ Governor Larry Hogan issued a statewide proclamation announcing May 15 โ May 21, 2016 as Armed Forces Week in Maryland. President Harry S. Truman led the original effort to recognize all branches of the Armed Forces on a single day, resulting in the first official celebration of Armed Forces Day on May 20, 1950. Since that time, the observance has expanded to Armed Forces Week in honor of those who serve our nation.
โThis week, as we do all year, we pay very special tribute to the heroes of the Armed Forces, and their families, who have dedicated their lives to our country and public service,โ said Governor Hogan. โOur brave servicemen and women protect our country with selflessness, dignity, and honor, and work every day to preserve the freedoms that we hold so dear. I ask that all Marylanders please join me in thanking all members of the military for their patriotic service at home and abroad.โ
