ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Yesterday, the Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention, Youth, and Victim Services announced the release of more than $4 million in federal funds from the Edward J. Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (BJAG), to support crime reduction efforts in Maryland though law enforcement, youth development, and other evidence-based programs.
“The Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention, Youth, and Victim Services supports comprehensive approaches to addressing the issues which compromise safety and quality of life within our communities,” said Glenn Fueston, Executive Director of the Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention, Youth, and Victim Services. “This funding will help support programs and initiatives that can make a difference in tackling these challenges for a brighter future.”
The Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention, Youth, and Victim Services has undertaken a comprehensive, three-tier plan focused on expanded collaboration among the law enforcement, prevention, and victim service communities to create a safer Maryland. Roughly $1.7 million in grants will be allocated to youth development programs, with priority given to applicants that serve multiple designated Maryland Criminal Intelligence Network (MCIN) sites in Maryland. Roughly $3 million will be made available to local government agencies for law enforcement wellness initiatives, evidence-based law enforcement crime reduction strategies, and support for agency transitions to the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS), to achieve statewide compliance by January 2021.
