Patuxent Habitat for Humanity in partnership with Adam Gatley Construction Company removed and replaced sub flooring at the Great Mills, MD home of retired US Navy LCDR Tim DiGennaro and his wife Wanda. A major portion of the home had water damage that was caused by a leaking roof. A few years ago Patuxent Habitat replaced the roof with funding from our Veteran’s Critical Home Repair Program, however due to budget constraints it was not possible for us to address the flooring issue. Over time this issue has deteriorated the flooring and had to be addressed immediately for safety and health issues. These repairs were made possible by a grant from The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, Inc. With the help of volunteers and the donation of a storage pod from Quality Transfer & Storage we were able to remove & store the homeowners’ property while his floors were being removed and replaced. Mr. & Mrs. DiGennaro can now breathe a little better and feel a bit safer in their home.
Everyone deserves the opportunity to age in place with dignity in their own home and community, especially our veterans!
The Patuxent Habitat for Humanity Veteran Critical Repair Program is designed to repair homes for military veterans and their families. The program will assist with repairs identified in Habitat’s Critical Home Repair guidelines that may vary from roof repair and structural wall repairs to installing wheel chair ramps and remodeling bathrooms to be easily used by veterans with disabilities. If you would like to donate or volunteer for veteran programs please call Laurie at 301-863-6227 or email laurie@patuxenthabitat.org for more information.

About Habitat for Humanity International
Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity has grown from a grassroots effort that began on a community farm in southern Georgia in 1976 to a global nonprofit housing organization in nearly 1,400 communities across the U.S. and in over 70 countries. People partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering, or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower. To learn more, visit habitat.org.
