BALTIMORE – A Frederick woman, using the name “Mom and Dad” for publicity reasons, is counting her blessings. She took a spin on The Big Spin Wheel on July 15, an extremely hot day, and walked away with a cool $50,000 prize.
It was a month ago when she was given the news about her chance to spin The Big Spin Wheel. She was with a friend purchasing some items from a Royal Farms store in Frederick when she decided to play some scratch-offs. She purchased two $5 THE BIG SPIN scratch-offs and played them in the store. The first ticket was not a winner, but the second ticket revealed a “SPIN” symbol.
“I knew I won something, but didn’t know what,” she said when Lottery officials spoke to her on the day of her spin. “And, when I scanned it, the message said I won the jackpot and to call the Lottery.”
Not familiar with the complexities of what that meant, she followed directions and called Lottery headquarters for clarification.
“The person on the phone told me that I needed to make an appointment to spin the big wheel,” the winner said. “So, that’s what I did, and here I am.”
The player arrived at Lottery headquarters July 15, family in tow, anxious and excited. She said a friend had given her incorrect information about the amount she could win on the wheel and was pleasantly surprised to discover she could win from $50,000 to $250,000.
As she took her spin, the excitement grew as the wheel slowed to a halt, just barely missing the $250,000 prize and stopping at $50,000. The grateful winner was not disappointed.
“I walked in here thinking the least I could win was $1,000, so winning $50,000 is just fine,” she smiled.
The Frederick player said she’ll use the prize money for a new car and furniture and will save whatever’s left.
The winning scratch-off was purchased at the Royal Farms store at 75 Monocacy Boulevard in Frederick. The Lottery retailer will receive a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
THE BIG SPIN is a $5 scratch-off game that launched March 20. Players who reveal a “SPIN” symbol can scan their scratch-off at a Lottery retailer or by using the My Lottery Rewards app. Most “SPIN” symbols lead to a cash prize of $10 to $250, but eight winning tickets will send players to try their luck with The Big Spin Wheel at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. That spin will award a minimum prize of $50,000 and up to $250,000. Two of those remain unclaimed.
Players can also win instant prizes on the ticket. There is one $50,000 instant top prize remaining, along with thousands of prizes ranging from $5 and $5,000.
