At approximately 9:40 pm on Tuesday, January 30, a theft was reported from the Wal-Mart in Prince Frederick, Calvert County.ย A white woman stole a Compaq Presario computer out of the store and had fled in an SUV bearing Connecticut registration.ย ย
At approximately 9:55 p.m., Corporal S. J. Bowman observed the suspect vehicle in the Owings area of Calvert County.ย He attempted to stop the SUV but the driver accelerated north on MD Rt. 4 towards Dunkirk.ย
The driver proceeded north on MD Rt. 4 through Dunkirk into and through Anne Arundel County traveling at nearly 100 miles per hour.ย He entered Prince Georgeโs County and proceeded north on Marlboro Pike.ย He then went north on US Rt. 301, made a U-turn in the median and proceeded south on US Rt. 301.ย
He crossed the median and traveled south in the northbound lanes of US Rt. 301 near Marlboro Pike.ย He then traveled through the 7-11 parking lot at US Rt. 301 andย proceeded east on Marlboro Pike.ย
Throughout the chase, the suspect drove in a reckless manner.ย He attempted to strike Corporal Bowmanโs patrol unit several times.ย He also nearly struck numerous motorists and customers walking on the 7-11 parking lot.ย
Corporal Bowman forced the SUV from behind near Wells Corner causing the driver to lose control.ย The SUV slid off of the roadway and overturned.ย
Both suspects remained in the vehicle and surrendered to the police.ย An ambulance was requested but both refused treatment.ย
The driver was identified as Aaron Vaughn Edward Brown (42 of Bowie, MD).ย The white female observed at the Wal-Mart was identified as Denise Dianne Hunnell-Garcia (40 of Mitchellville, MD).ย The SUV (2003 Nissan Pathfinder) had been reported stolen on December 20, 2006, through the Meriden Police Department in Connecticut.ย Both Brown and Hunnell-Garcia were listed as possible suspects of the vehicle theft.ย The stolen computer was also recovered.ย
Brown and Hunnell-Garcia were charged with two counts of felony theft, malicious destruction of property and assault (2 counts) against Corporal Bowman.ย Brown was also charged with numerous traffic violations related to the pursuit.ย Both suspects were incarcerated in the Calvert County Detention Center pending a District Court Commissionerโs hearing.ย Corporal Bowman sustained injuries to his back and left wrist.ย He drove himself to the Calvert Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released.
