Waldorf, MD – Two people discovered dead in a homeless camp in Charles County Tuesday, April 4 have been identified.
Officers from the Charles County Sheriffโs Office responded to a wooded area in the 11100 block of Billingsley Road in Waldorf around 3:58 p.m. for the report of two people found deceased inside a tent.
A preliminary investigation showed a family member went to check on the two peopleโVictoria Nicole Crossley, 31 of Waldorf, and Andrew Charles Boyle Jr., 31 of no fixed addressโwho were known to live in the tent periodically. When the family member looked inside the tent, it was apparent both Crossley and Boyle were deceased.
Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division responded and found evidence of narcotic use on the scene.
There were no signs of trauma to either person and foul play is not suspected at this time. Detective C. Shankster and Detective R. Forbes are investigating.
โDrug-related or non-drug related, people are still living outside,โ said Sandy Washington, director of Lifestyles of Southern Maryland in La Plata. โMental illness, substance abuse, these things have become a problem in our community. There is not enough help for them,โ she added.
โSomething has to change,โ she said.
Washington noted these were the second and third deaths in three weeks.
โTwo weeks ago a body was found in La Plata and that death was weather-related,โ she explained. โThere are so many issues in our community. Whether this activity was taking place in a tent or in a house, there are not enough avenues, not enough help for these people.โ
