
CALIFORNIA, Md. — A Lusby man was charged after Maryland State Police reported a disturbance at a California hotel turned into a foot chase across Route 235.
Xavier James Holloway, 22, of Lusby, was charged with obstructing and hindering, failure to obey a lawful order, resisting or interfering with arrest and disorderly conduct. Court records also list traffic-related fleeing or eluding citations connected to the same incident.
The charges stem from a June 26, 2026, incident at the La Quinta Inn in the 22700 block of Three Notch Road in California.
Charging documents state Maryland State Police troopers responded at approximately 11:18 p.m. for a report of disorderly conduct and a possible assault. Dispatchers advised that a verbal argument and assault had occurred on the second floor of the hotel.
When troopers arrived, a hotel employee directed them to Holloway, who was outside the business. Police reported Holloway was aggressively yelling, waving his arms at a patron seated on the curb and drawing the attention of others in the parking lot.
Charging documents state Holloway began walking away from the hotel toward other businesses. A trooper walked toward him, identified himself as Maryland State Police and ordered him to stop.
Holloway looked back and then sprinted away, court documents state. Police reported chasing him north on Route 235 before he crossed both northbound and southbound lanes and stopped running.
During the foot chase, Holloway was given multiple commands to stop running and refused, charging documents state.
Troopers later spoke with witnesses on the second floor of the hotel, who reported Holloway had been involved in a verbal disturbance in a room and hallway, according to court documents.
Holloway was placed in custody and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. Court records show he was released on recognizance June 28.
