On Sept. 10, members of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of an automobile accident in the area of Solomons Island Road and Northwest Drive in Huntingtown. Upon arrival deputies identified all parties and vehicles involved in the accident.
The investigation showed a 2003 Ford F150 truck driven by Nicholas Paul Stup Sr. 34 of Huntingtown, was traveling southbound through a construction zone approaching Northwest Drive. The construction zone consisted of cones dividing the fast lane from the slow lane from the Route 2 and Route 4 split to Northwest Drive.
The Ford F150, while approaching Northwest Drive, impacted a 1995 Mack dump truck that was operated by Rex Eugene Jones, 52 of Huntingtown. The Mack truck was reducing speed with intent to merge into the fast lane where the construction was to take place.
Deputies on scene determined Stup sustained injuries during the accident that resulted in his death. Stup was pronounced dead on scene by EMS and then transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital where he was later examined by a forensic investigator.
The investigation is currently ongoing and being handled by Dfc. J.M. Hardesty of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team.
