PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – On May 4, 2026, Richard Meredith Huntzberry, 39, of Huntingtown, entered a guilty plea to driving while impaired by alcohol after having been convicted of three or more such offenses in the past.
He was sentenced to 10 years incarceration with all but five years suspended, followed by five years of supervised probation. As a condition of probation, Huntzberry will be required to maintain an ignition interlock device on all of his vehicles. The sentence was handed down by Calvert County Circuit Court Judge Mark S. Chandlee.
On Dec. 31, 2025, Calvert County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area of 3885 Sixes Road, Prince Frederick, for the report of an accident. Police investigation revealed that a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Huntzberry had crossed the center line and collided with another vehicle occupied by a woman and her 18-month-old child.
Huntzberry had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, slurred speech and watery eyes. He failed all field sobriety tests. Although he denied being the driver, a witness reported seeing Huntzberry exit the driver’s side of his vehicle. Fortunately, the victim and her child were not seriously injured.
Calvert County State’s Attorney Robert Harvey stated: “The court is to be commended for imposing the maximum sentence authorized by law and holding Mr. Huntzberry accountable for his actions. Drivers must know that there are severe consequences for drunk driving.”
This case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney April N. Brown.

Justice system doing its finest work here.
If aliens came down from space, they would think our court system wants this man to kill someone while drunk driving. How many chances are they going to give him? I mean he’s only getting 5 years, don’t worry he’ll do it again as soon as he is out.
