A fire investigators determined was caused by unattended burning incense damaged an Indian Head apartment Friday, Aug. 23, state officials reported.
According to the Maryland State Fire Marshalโs Office, the blaze occurred around 8:45 p.m. inside a two-story, wood-frame apartment building on Raymond Avenue. The estimated damage totaled $30,000. There were no injuries but the occupant was displaced.
โThe fire was determined to be accidental from unattended incense burning in the living room,โ stated Dfm. John Nelson. โThe fire was contained to the room of origin.โ
Thirty firefighters from four Charles County volunteer companiesโPotomac Heights, Indian Head, La Plata and Bryans Roadโand personnel from Naval District Washington, Indian Head were dispatched to the blaze and brought the blaze under control in three minutes.
The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced occupant.
