BALTIMORE, Maryland โ (March 28, 2017) โ The Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) today launched a College Access and Affordability Campaign, an multi-media initiative designed to highlight and promote the benefits of post-secondary education. Lt. Governor Boyd K. Rutherford joined MHEC to kick off the campaign at an event held at the Maryland State House in Annapolis, MD.
โAccess to higher education is essential to compete in todayโs global economy,โ said Lt. Governor Rutherford. โOur administration remains firmly committed to providing all possible resources to make postsecondary education accessible and affordable for all Marylanders.โ
MHEC received $350,000 in federal funding for this innovative program, which will raise awareness and provide information about college financial aid opportunities, accessibility, and promote the benefits of college completion. It targets high school students, adult learners, senior citizens, and veterans. MHEC will focus its efforts in communities with lower college attendance rates and partner with area high schools, colleges, community organizations, and religious organizations to inform its residents of the services and programs available in Maryland to help them achieve their education goals.
โThe Maryland Higher Education Commission is constantly reaching out to inform students and parents about the value of post-secondary education, as well as the financial aid opportunities available here in Maryland,โ commented Secretary James D. Fielder, Jr., Ph.D. โThis campaign provides the perfect opportunity for MHEC to connect with a much wider audience.โ
Influencers in government, business, sports and entertainment from across Maryland will be supporting MHECโs effort to encourage residents to consider a post-secondary education by speaking at outreach events in some of the affected communities in Central Maryland, Eastern Shore, Southern Maryland, and Western Maryland.
