Recently, the Charles County Sheriffโs Office has investigated numerous burglaries โ mostly in the Waldorf area- in which flat screen televisions, electronics, game systems and jewelry are being stolen. In many cases, the suspects are breaking into homes by entering unlocked doors or breaking out windows. Although a number of leads have been investigated, the suspects have not been identified. It is not immediately clear if all of the break-ins are being committed by the same suspects. Detectives say these burglaries are occurring during the day when most homeowners are at work. They also believe several suspects are involved in each burglary because the targeted items are large and heavy.
Sheriff Rex W. Coffey has authorized a reward of up to $5,000 for tips that lead to the identity of the suspects involved in multiple burglaries. Additionally, Charles County Crime Solvers offers cash rewards of up to $1,000 for tips that lead to the arrest and indictment of suspects involved in criminal activity. Anyone with information should call the Charles County Sheriffโs Office at (301) 932-2222. Callers wishing to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS.
The CCSO is advising citizens to be alert and report suspicious activity immediately. Taking a few simple precautions such as securing all windows and doors and trimming back shrubbery can help deter a break-in. Homeowners should also record serial numbers and mark valuables to help identify the property if it stolen and recovered. In addition, the Charles County Sheriffโs Office offers home security surveys to assist homeowners with making homes safer.
