Solomons, MD – Join the โultimate apex predator of the marine worldโ Saturday, July 14 at the Calvert Marine Museum (CMM) for Sharkfest.
First hosted in 1994, Sharkfest returns this summer for its ninth outing since becoming an annual event. Sharkfest offers three species of live sharks, shark-themed crafts, $5 face painting, and a Tidewater Dental-sponsored inflatable shark slide. Eventgoers will even have the opportunity to have their picture taken in the Jaws of the infamous Megalodon.
New to the event this year is the addition of the swell shark to the live shark tank, updated education stations that have a focus on buoyancy as well as the use of sharkskinโs design in various products materials, otherwise known as biomimicry, and the addition of more hands-on activities.
Sharkfest coordinator Mindy Quinn, encourages everyone to come out โeven if theyโre a little bit afraid of sharks.โ She assures that the event is an opportunity to learn about the โfairly misunderstoodโ sharks who are โvery importantโ to the ecosystem.
Food will be available for purchase from Dan Dโs Concessions and Ritaโs Ice. In addition to food, CMM assures that the museumโs store will be โfully stocked with โsharkโ mementos including toys and books.โ
Regular admission rates apply and CMM members are free. A press release put out by CMM reminds the public that strollers are not allowed in the museum and complimentary museum passes โwill not be honored.โ
