UPPER MARLBORO, Md. — The Maryland Department of Natural Resources Fisheries announced last week that they’ve completed renovations on Jackson’s Landing boat ramp, located at Patuxent River Park.
The boat ramp is located directly on the Patuxent River, with access to Jug Bay. Boaters will now be able to access a brand-new concrete boat ramp equipped with a modern floating boarding pier for easier loading and unloading. Paddlers also have access to a dedicated kayak access pier and a specialized floating launch system. Finally, there is a brand-new public fishing pier.
“This project is a true testament to the ‘user-pay, public-benefit’ model. Maryland State Waterway Improvement Funds provided $133,430, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Sport Fish Restoration Boating Access Funds provided $719,640, and the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission provided $46,480 for design and construction,” Maryland DNR Fisheries wrote on its Facebook page.
These upgrades were proposed in 2022 and updated in 2023 by Maryland DNR, which said it reached the “end of its life cycle” and was in need of complete renovations.
Jackson’s Landing is open from 8 a.m. to sunset daily. Reservations are not required to access the boat and kayak launches, and permits can be purchased at the Jug Bay Natural Area Visitors Center. Watergoers can also rent kayaks or canoes to use at Jackson’s Landing.
