Music director Jeffrey Silberschlag introduced the July 10, Friday evening River Concert by singing his script. Guest conductor Larry Vote led the Chesapeake Orchestra in many popular tunes from well known Rodgers & Hammerstein musicals.
The concert at St. Mary’s College of Maryland starred four vocalists. British soprano Diane Atherton has sung in concert halls across Europe, the British Isles and the U.S.A. Baritone, Robert McDonald is known for his performances in Washington D.C. musical theater.
Tenor Stephen Cramer, has performed at a River Concert in the past and has been on NBC’s “The Today Show” and was featured at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall. St. Mary’s City’s own mezzo-soprano, Olivia Vote, is current resident artist at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia and has previously performed at the River Concert series. Highlights of the concert included an inspiring rendition of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” from “Carousel” sung by Olivia Vote, a cozy and well acted version of “The Surrey with the Fringe on Top”, where Ms. Atherton peacefully went to sleep on her lover’s shoulder, “Climb Every Mountain” and an enthusiastic finish with “Oklahoma!”, which received a huge standing ovation.
The concert was enhanced by the delightful Chesapeake Choir positioned behind the ever talented Chesapeake Orchestra. Olivia Vote is pictured.
