Denise and Kevin King ten years ago started an experiment in style and creativity when they decided to open King Kreations โ€“ a neat crafty shop that will customize and create one-of-a-kind arts and crafts on the spot for their customers.

The shop is housed in a quaint cottage located on the Kingโ€™s property at 46086 Drayden Rd. in Valley Lee, only minutes away from Leonardtown and Lexington Park. The store has varying hours due to the fact that Denise King is a full-time school teacher. โ€œDuring the school year we are open Saturdays and Sundays only from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. In summer, our hours are Thursdays and Fridays from noon to 5 p.m. and our normal hours on the weekend.โ€

The creative couple offer country and primitives crafts and gifts.โ€ Kevin makes many items using old barn wood.ย  He has made many tobacco stick chairs using the remnants of local tobacco farmers,โ€ said Denise King.

Denise King makes all types of floral arrangements. โ€œI have used oyster shells and decorated old tobacco baskets.ย  I am famous for my wreaths and do all types of custom work.ย  We have a large range of gifts and handmade crafts in our cute little country cottage,โ€ beamed Denise King.

Because Denise is involved in the process of educating St. Maryโ€™s County children, the Kings appreciate the struggles of educators and schools. โ€œThe economic conditions we are experiencing now make it even more difficult,โ€ said Kevin King. โ€œWe always will donate to school fundraisers.ย  We have donated to the basket bingo at St. Johnโ€™s School.ย  We have donated to Piney Point Elementary and St. Michaelโ€™s fund raisers.โ€

The couple has also given presentations to a local girlscout troop on running a small business.

In order to keep their crafts current and unique, the couple likes to comb the woods and beaches for interesting items to incorporate in their creations. โ€œKevin and I started King Kreations 10 years ago doing all the local craft shows. We opened our cottage several years later,โ€ said Denise King. โ€œWe went into business because we love to be creative.โ€

The Kings admit that business has been slow. โ€œWe definitely have been hit by the slow economy.ย  What keeps us going is that our business location is on our property and we own the cottage. My husband and I are the only employees,โ€ said Denise King.

The one-of-a-kind gift shop offers a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere for its customers. โ€œThe senior citizens at Wildewood love us!โ€ beamed Denise King.
