The Region 3A South Semi-Final football game between Lackey High School and Chopticon High School has been moved to Chopticon High School located at 25390 Colton Point Road, Morganza.ย  The move is the result of Lackey’s loss of it’s first seed ranking.

This week, Lackeyโ€™s athletic staff learned that there was an academically ineligible player on the Chargerโ€™s football team for a short time this season. ย The error was a miscalculation of the studentโ€™s grade point average for the fourth quarter of the last school year.

As a result, the school had to forfeit three of its regular season games, leaving it with a five-win, five-loss record for the regular football season.

Despite forfeiting the games, Lackey is still one of the top four seeds in the 3A South division. ย This allows Lackey to stay in the playoffs; however, the team loses the home field advantage throughout the playoffs.ย  Lackey was ranked first, but now holds the fourth-seed spot.

Charles County Public Schools policy requires that students maintain a 2.0 minimum grade point average, have no more than one failing grade per quarter and meet attendance minimums in order to participate in any extracurricular activity.

Allowing an academic ineligible student to participate in a sport is a violation of Charles County Public Schools policy. ย Penalty for the violation is established by the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) rules and procedures, which state that for a first violation, a member school must forfeit all games in which the violation occurred. Lackey is a MPSSAA member and is following all recommendations, rules and procedures of the state organization.

The game will start at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16.ย  Admission is $5.00 per person with children ages six and under admitted free.

Courtesy cards and school system ID cards are not accepted for free admission to State-level games.
