In their final home game of the regular season, the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs sent their fans home happy with three runs in the 8th inning to defeat the Somerset Patriots 5-2.

In a tie game, the Blue Crabs mounted a rally against the Patriots bullpen in the 8th. Cyle Hankerd and Jake Opitz both singled to start the inning and advanced to second and third after a sacrifice bunt. Angel Chavez then put the Blue Crabs in front with an RBI single that scored Hankerd. After Opitz scored on a wild pitch, Junior Arrojo singled in the third and final run of the night to make it 5-2.

Southern Maryland broke through for the first runs of the night in the 2nd inning. With two outs, Jermaine Mitchell lined a two-run double to right field for an early Blue Crabs lead.

The Patriots responded in the 4th inning with one swing of the bat as Luis Montanez connected with a two-run home run, his 17th of the season, to tie the game at 2-2.

Southern Maryland begin their final series of the regular season on the road tomorrow against the Long Island Ducks at 7:05 PM.
