Throughout the day on Saturday, December 3, 2011, families arrived at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds in Leonardtown for the first “Live Candy Land” fundraiser. This fundraiser involved a life size version of the classic candy land game where the kids were the game pieces and moved along the life size game board. Once the kids reached the end of the board, they were given the opportunity to roll the large die for the rest of the players to advance positions in the game. Throughout the game, there were characters positioned to hand out prizes to the players as the moved through the game.
This fundraiser was for a local team called “Thanks for the Mammaries” who had a goal of raising $10,000 to fund their team members to walk in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer at a cost of $1800 for each walker. In the end, the team raised $2,590 from this event.
