Even in a down economy, some small businesses that have remained focused on core business segments seem to weathering the economic storm. One such business, Mattress Corner, owned by Bill Gaines and located at 21729C Great Mills Rd. in Lexington Park is an example.

According to Gaines, โ€œWe expect to see business pick up in 2010. We are looking forward to a better year and in fact expect that by summer to be doing even better than last year.โ€

Gaines attributes his storeโ€™s relative success to the fact that he has been in the business for years and knows what it takes to generate sales. โ€œOverall we are very fortunate to be in the area we are in. There are many other areas of the country that are struggling to say the least.โ€

Gaines started the storeย as a full-line furniture store, but in 1993 decided to focus on bedding only. The current store sells mattresses, box springs, head- and footboards, futons, bunk beds and daybeds and offers delivery to all its customers.

Gaines believes that businesses should be active in their communities. Because of that, Mattress Corner donates to many community agencies, churches and charities including The Three Oaks Center.

The store is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday from Noon to 5 p.m. Those that would like more information should call (800) 762-BEDS, (301) 863-2242 or email Gaines at mattresscornerbill@verizon.net.
