Friday Sports with Buddy Long (Click Here)
Football is back!!! Itโs Hall of Fame weekend in the National Football League!!!
Hello Sports Fans, Iโm Buddy Long. And THIS is the Friday August 2nd edition of Southern Maryland Sports.
NFL:
Training Camps around the National Football League may have been in full swing for almost 2 weeks, but that pales in comparison to the actual cracking of the helmets in the first Pre Season game of the year. Now while THAT pales in comparison to the beginning of the REGULAR season, the diehards are ready for some football!!!
Baltimore Ravens:
And for Baltimore Ravens fans, this-weekends Hall of Fame festivities are especially sweet. Not for the on field activities Sunday between the Cowboys and Dolphins, but for the ceremony that will take place Saturday, as Jonathan Ogden, the 11 time Pro Bowl Offensive Lineman who anchored the Baltimore line for 12 years, will become the 1st Raven inducted into the Hall of Fame. Ogden will be the first man up Saturday to make his speech, being introduced by Ravens General Manager Ozzie Newsome.
The Ravens will get their shot on the field next Thursday August 8 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Washington Redskins:
Training Camp continued in Richmond, Virginia Thursday for the Redskins as Robert Griffin III continued to increase his reps in the 7 on 7 drills. The reps recently have increased to 16-17 reps per day. If all continues well, those reps will remain the same for the time being, slowly increasing, eventually moving Griffin to 11 on 11 drills.
The team also signed Linebacker Nick Barnett to a 1 year deal. The leading tackler for the Buffalo Bills the last 2 years, Barnett will push London Fletcher and Perry Riley for a starting spot with the team.
The Redskins continue to prepare for next Thursdays 1st pre season matchup at the Tennessee Titans.
College Football Pre Season Rankings:
To nobodyโs surprise, defending national champion Alabama has received the largest amount of overall votes as the projected #1 team in the college football land as the NCAA pre season rankings were released Thursday. Following the Crimson Tide were:
2 Ohio State
3Oregon
4 Stanford
5 Georgia
6 Texas A and M
7 South Carolina
8 Clemson
9 Louisville
10 Florida
Of note, Notre Dame, the runner-up in the title game last year, is ranked 11th in the preseason polls, while Florida State joins Clemson as the only other ACC team in the Top 25 rankings.
Maryland Terrapins:
For the Maryland Terrapins, the road to recovery will begin August 31, a home game against Florida Internati
