A-Rod Suspended through 2014 Season!!!! Or is he????

Hello Sports Fans, Iโ€™m Buddy Long. And this is the Tuesday August 6th edition of Southern Maryland Sports.

Major League Baseball:

The anticipated suspension of New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez officially hit on Monday, as Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig set down the veteran for a record 211 games, which extends through the entire 2014 season.

The suspension will begin on Thursday for Rodriguez, an end result of his participation in the Biogenesis investigation regarding the issuance of performance enhancing drugs… This is the longest suspension since Major League Baseball instituted the Joint Drug Program back in 2006. Rodriguez will appeal, thus allowing him to continue to play until his appeal is heard.

Rodriguez was 1 of 12 players reprimanded by the league, including notable All Stars such as the Texas Rangers Outfielder Nelson Cruz, Detroit Tigers Short Stop Johnny Perralta, and San Diego Padres Short Stop Everth Cabrera. However, in difference to the Rodriguez suspension, the penalty was just 50 games for the remaining players, all of which will not challenge the suspension, and begin serving the suspensions immediately, and WILL be eligible for post season play.

The Players Union has stated they will defend Rodriguezโ€™s rights vigorously, also stating Commissioner Bud Selig has not handled this situation properly.

Now the investigation also involved Washington Nationals pitcher Gio Gonzalez, as well as Baltimore Orioles infielder Danny Valencia. However, both players have been exonerated of any violations

Washington Nationals:

Justin Upton belted his 20th homer of the season, helping the Atlanta Braves to a 3-2 win over the Washington Nationals, opening up a 3 game series at Nationals Park. The loss drops the Nats to 54-58 on the season, thirteen and a half games out of first in the NL East. The Braves and Nats will resume play this evening.

Baltimore Orioles:

The Orioles used Monday as a travel day to begin an 8 game road trip in the National League, starting this evening with the San Diego Padres. Following that 2 game set, the Oโ€™s will head to San Fran
