Tuesday Sports with Buddy Long (Click Here)

Hello sports fans Iโ€™m Buddy Long, and this is the Tuesday July 30th edition of Southern Maryland sports.

Well a quiet day for the Baltimore Washington region for major baseball as both the Orioles and the nationals had a rare day off on Monday. The oriels will remain home to begin a home stand with the Houston Astros later on this evening.

Weiyen Chen will be on the mound for Baltimore as they have gone five and five since the all-star break but they’re still ten games over the five hundred mark, and they’re still looking to see if they can gain some ground on both Boston and Tampa bay in the American League East standings.

For the Washington Nationals they used Monday as a travel day to head out to the Midwest to get set for inter league play against the Detroit Tigers, game number one of that two game series tonight at Comerica Park. Steven Strasburg will be on the mound this evening for the Nats, Gio Gonzales will get to start tomorrow and then the Nats head off to take on the Milwaukee Brewers for a weekend series.

Biggest news in major league baseball this week, the training deadline, coming up at 4pm on Wednesday Nationals general manager Mike Rizzio states thereโ€™s nobody available better than what the Nationals currently have provided they perform to their abilities. Lately, the Nationals backs have been hot, they took three of four from the New York Mets over the weekend ending with the 14 to 1 victory on Sunday. Right now the Nats are two games under the five hundred mark and looking to see if they can close that gap a little bit more in Detroit tonight.

For the Orioles one of the players that may be of interest to them is Minnesota first baseman Justin Morneau, who is in the final year of 14 million dollar contract but only time will tell as to whether the Orioles or the Nats will make any type of move and again 4 pm is the deadline in major league baseball.

Another team that has gotten back on the winning trail are your Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. After losing 3 to 4 to the Lancaster Barn Stormers over the weekend, the Blue Crabs picked up the finale on Sunday and then turned that around for the victory over the division leading Long Island Ducks last night. Daryl Thompson had a good night on the mound, the offense stayed hot, the Blue Crabs scored a five to three victory raising their record 10-14 on the season, five games back of the Ducks in the liberty division. Game number 2 of that three game series will be coming up tonight.

Training camp for the Washington Redskins continued at Richmond VA after having Sunday off. Again the headline was Robert Griffin III the famed quarterback of the was Redskins came rolling out of the locker room giving high fives to all the fans on the sidelines, but again, wearing the knee brace, making the announcement that he would wear that brace throughout the entire NFL football regular season.

The news again for another day was not good. On the defensive side quarterback De Angelo Hall rolled his right ankle. Once he tried to get up and sprint down the field, he was still having trouble with the ankle. Hall Pr
