Leonardtown, MD –The St. Maryโ€™s County Sheriffโ€™s Office reports that on Friday, June 12 Lt. David Yingling was stationary in his police car when he heard a thud.

The lieutenant discovered a hawk had hit the car and was injured. Yingling scooped the hawk up, gave it some water and called a rescue organization. The rescue folks responded immediately and are taking care of the hawk, which is believed to be endangered, until he can return to the wild.ย

The sheriffโ€™s office is happy to report rescuers think the bird was only slightly injured and will be fine in no time.

The sheriffโ€™s office thanks the Orphaned Wildlife Rescue Center located in Lusby for their aid and expertise in this matter.
