Prince Frederick, MD – The Optimist Club of Calvert Prince Frederick announced their 2018 Scholarship recipients on July 11, 2018. The Club, through its Calvert Optimist Community Parks Foundation, began their scholarship program in 1975 with a single award valued at $2,000. Today the Optimist Club awards three scholarships each year. Over the past 43 years, the Calvert Optimist Scholarship Program has awarded $264,250 in scholarships to graduates of Calvert County Public Schools.
This year’s Calvert Optimist-Knapp Scholarship, valued at $8,000, was awarded to Northern High graduate McKinley Cameron. McKinley will be attending the University of Maryland at College Park this fall and will be majoring in Psychology.
The 2018 Optimist Scholarship, valued at $6,000, was awarded to Angelique Almuete. Angelique is a Huntingtown High graduate and will attending the University of Maryland- Baltimore County this fall majoring in Mathematics.
The 2018 Career/Vocational/Techical Scholarship, valued at $3,000, was awarded to Naomi Wilson. Naomi is a Patuxent High graduate and will be attending Culinary Institute of Virginia in Norfolk, VA this fall majoring in Culinary Science.
The Optimist Club of Calvert-Prince Frederick meets on the 2nd Monday of each month at The Calvert Taphouse in Prince Frederick at 7PM.
