Saturday morning, July 28 proved to be an ideal time to go for a ride in a hot air balloon. Rides in the RE/MAX hot air balloon were the featured attraction at the RE/MAX One-Bayside Auto Group Summer Festival on Auto Drive.

โ€œI donโ€™t anything like this has ever happened in Prince Frederick before,โ€ said Mark Davis, whose law firmโ€”Davis, Upton, Palumbo & Daugherty LLCโ€”is located on Main Street. The firmโ€™s headquarters is also home to RE/MAX One.

The balloon was tethered but still ascended to a significant height high above the festival site. The pilot, Kevin, said he has been flying the hot air balloon for the realtor since 1974, when the company first started utilizing the balloon as its logo. Kevin said he flew numerous times over Camp David, a routine that had to be discontinued after the 9/11 attacks. He had plans to load the craft in his van and drive to the Washington Redskinsโ€™ training camp once the four-hour festival was over. The RE/MAX balloon has also flown over Regency Furniture Stadium during Southern Maryland Blue Crabsโ€™ games.

Davis reported the goal of the festival was to raise funds for the Sheldon Goldberg Center for Breast Care at Calvert Memorial Hospital.

ย In addition to balloon rides, the festival included a moon bounce, music spun by DJ Dave and tours of the Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Officeโ€™s mobile command vehicle.
