Mechanicsville, MD— A Mechanicsville man has been charged through a summons with three counts of animal cruelty after Animal Control found a goat with large lacerations to its neck.

Officers inspected the laceration, and discovered it smelled of infection and cause the animal discomfort. The animal also did not have access to clean water or shelter.ย 

Several other animals on the property “did not haveย clean water, other animals appeared malnourished,” according to charging documents.ย 

The defendant, who was identified as Anthony G. Dotson, said he works in Washington, D.C. and Waldorf, however, he tends to the animals almost every day and never noticed the wound to the animal’s neck.ย 

Dotson faces a maximum jail sentence of 9 months and/or a maximum fine of $3,000.ย
