La Plata, Md – A man was injured this morning after the car he was driving left the roadway and struck a brick wall in the La Plata area.
The victim has been identified as Antonio Brandon Washington, 27, of Fort Washington, Md. He was transported to Medstar Washington Hospital Center by Maryland State Police Aviation Trooper 2, where he remains hospitalized.
A preliminary investigation conducted by troopers from the La Plata Barrack, with the assistance of the Maryland State Police CRASH Team, indicated that shortly before 5:00 a.m. April 25, the driver of a 2010 Nissan was traveling eastbound on La Plata Road east of Hawkins Gate Road. For an unknown reason, the driver lost control, crossed through the westbound lanes and left the roadway. The Nissan then struck a brick driveway entrance wall before coming to rest in a residential yard. There were no passengers in the vehicle and investigators are unable to determine if the driver was wearing a seatbelt. Speed and alcohol were factors in the collision.
Due to the severity of the crash and the amount of debris, troopers closed both directions of traffic on La Plata Road for several hours.
Anyone who may have witnessed this crash is asked to contact the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack at 301-392-1200. The investigation is continuing.
