MARYLAND — The Maryland Grain Producers Association is now accepting applications for two major support programs for the 2026–2027 year: up to $20,000 in scholarships and $4,000 in CDL grant funding to help train the next generation of Maryland’s agricultural workforce.

“Our goal is to support both the educational and practical needs of Maryland’s grain industry,” the organization said in a recent announcement. “Whether you’re in school or on the farm, these funds can help move your career forward.”

The annual scholarship program is open to students pursuing degrees in agriculture or related fields. Multiple recipients will be selected, and awards are intended to support the next generation of agricultural leaders across the state.

In addition to scholarships, the association is also providing CDL grant funding to farmers or employees of farmers who seek to obtain or upgrade a CDL—an essential credential for transporting agricultural goods.

Available Scholarships:

  • Honoree – $3,000: For Maryland Grain Producers members studying agriculture or a related field.
  • Membership – $2,000: For members pursuing a non-agriculture-related degree.
  • Production – $1,000: For non-members studying agriculture or a related field.

CDL Grant Program

First launched in 2023, the CDL Grant is designed to help farmers or their employees offset the high cost of obtaining a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)—a growing burden due to new federal training requirements.

The 2026 grant will select two recipients, each receiving a $2,000 reimbursement upon successful CDL certification.

The program helps cover:

  • A required, lengthy in-person course
  • Large class and training fees

Applications are reviewed anonymously by a committee of Maryland Grain Producers board members. Grantees will also be honored at the 2026 Maryland Commodity Classic.

Both programs are open through January 9, 2026, and are designed to support students and working farmers across the state. Award recipients will be recognized in person at the 2026 Maryland Commodity Classic.

More information and applications for both programs are available at www.marylandgrain.org.
