WASHINGTON — A Maryland man has been found guilty of murder in connection with a deadly shooting that followed a fight inside a Northwest Washington bar.
Robert Lowe, 42, of Montgomery Village, was convicted by a Superior Court jury on May 5, 2026, in the April 2024 killing of a man inside Desperados Burger and Bar on U Street, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.
Lowe was found guilty of second-degree murder while armed, possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Authorities say he now faces a potential maximum sentence of 33 years in prison.
According to evidence presented at trial, the incident occurred around 1:10 a.m. on April 27, 2024, inside the bar located in the 1300 block of U Street NW.
Prosecutors said Lowe approached the victim from behind and struck him in the head with a bottle, sparking a fight. As the altercation escalated, authorities said the victim began gaining the upper hand before Lowe pulled out a firearm and shot him multiple times, striking him in the abdomen.
Lowe then fled the bar, got on a motorcycle, and sped away from the scene.
Officers with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Third District were nearby at the time and heard the gunfire. Body camera footage captured a person mounting a motorcycle in an alley while a witness pointed and yelled toward officers, identifying the suspect as he fled.
Police pursued the motorcycle but lost sight of it during the chase.
Officers attempted to render aid to the victim until emergency medical personnel arrived, but he died from his injuries.
Lowe was arrested on May 22, 2024, and has remained in custody since that time.
Sentencing is scheduled for July 17, 2026, before Judge Todd Edelman in Superior Court.
The case was investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Stephanie Dinan and Tamara Rubb.
