PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Two Prince George’s County residents are facing drug charges after Calvert County Sheriff’s Office deputies alleged a traffic stop and subsequent K-9 scan led to the discovery of suspected cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and other evidence inside their vehicle, according to court records.
Arin Whitney Thompson, 45, of Clinton, and Andre Leslie Lang, 48, of Lanham, were each charged in the District Court for Calvert County with possession of a controlled dangerous substance other than cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia. Lang was also charged with altering physical evidence in a criminal proceeding. Both cases stem from the same July 8, 2026, traffic stop conducted by the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit.
According to statements of probable cause, members of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit were conducting proactive patrols at approximately 10:20 p.m. July 8 in the area of Maryland Route 260 and Cox Road in Chesapeake Beach when they observed a silver Dodge Avenger with Virginia registration traveling westbound on Route 260. Deputies alleged the vehicle repeatedly crossed the solid white fog line near Boyds Turn Road.
Deputies initiated a traffic stop near Route 260 and Lafayette Drive. Thompson was identified as the driver, while Lang was identified as the passenger. According to charging documents, deputies observed the vehicle was cluttered and alleged Thompson struggled to locate the vehicle registration, which investigators said raised suspicion based on their training and experience. Deputies also alleged Thompson presented a Maryland identification card printed on paper rather than a standard-issued card.
While speaking with the occupants, deputies requested a K-9 unit. A deputy and a K-9 officer responded to the scene and conducted an open-air sniff of the vehicle. According to court documents, the K-9 gave a positive alert for the odor of controlled dangerous substances, providing probable cause for a search of the vehicle.
Investigators reported they located several items of suspected drug evidence during the search, including a metal smoking device with suspected cocaine residue, a black digital scale with white powder residue, a glass smoking device, and a white rock-like substance suspected to be cocaine on the floorboard.
According to the charging documents, deputies alleged Lang attempted to conceal or destroy evidence by walking to the front passenger-side floorboard and rubbing his feet across the white rock-like substance, allegedly causing it to smear into the carpet and leaving what investigators described as white powder residue on the bottoms of his shoes. Those allegations formed the basis for the additional charge of altering physical evidence.
During the investigation, deputies also reported discovering Thompson had an active arrest warrant through the Charles County Sheriff’s Office. She was taken into custody, and a subsequent search of her person reportedly did not locate any additional contraband. A search of Lang’s person reportedly uncovered a piece of unused Brillo pad, which investigators stated is commonly used as a filter in smoking devices used to consume cocaine.
All evidence recovered during the investigation was submitted to the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division for analysis, according to court documents.
Court records show both defendants were released after posting $2,500 unsecured personal bonds July 9, 2026. They are each scheduled for trial Aug. 11, 2026, in Calvert County District Court.
