MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — A Mechanicsville woman remains in critical condition following a head-on collision that took place Friday afternoon on Mechanicsville Road.

Megan Nicole Rowley, 31, was driving with a juvenile passenger when another vehicle crossed the center line and struck her car head-on, according to the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators say the crash occurred around 1:15 p.m. on May 30, 2025, in the 25000 block of Mechanicsville Road.

The driver of the other vehicle, 79-year-old Marjorie Swann Boyers of Chaptico, was pronounced dead at the scene. Rowley and the child were flown to a trauma center with life-threatening injuries. Authorities believe Boyers may have experienced a sudden medical emergency before her vehicle veered into oncoming traffic. Speed and impairment are not suspected to be factors.

Rowley’s family says she is now facing a long road to recovery. In an update posted Tuesday on CaringBridge, her sister Katie described the emotional moment following Megan’s spinal surgery: “When I walked in and saw her sitting up in bed, I got goosebumps… Just seeing her upright brought so much hope and emotion.”

Doctors are still determining the next steps, which could include additional surgeries to support her spine and improve blood flow to her brain.

A GoFundMe campaign has raised over $1,700 toward a $6,500 goal to assist with medical and living expenses. The fundraiser emphasizes the emotional toll and financial strain placed on the family, particularly as Katie Rowley remains by her sister’s side around the clock.

Those wishing to follow Megan’s recovery can do so on her CaringBridge page.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has relevant video footage to contact Cpl. Vincent Pontorno at 301-475-4200, ext. 2337, or via email at Vincent.Pontorno@stmaryscountymd.gov.

As the investigation continues, the Mechanicsville community rallies behind Megan — holding on to hope, offering prayers, and embracing the belief that, as loved ones have said, “Megan is a fighter and will continue to fight.”
