Sitting Charles County Commissioner, Reuben Collins from District 3 in Charles County is please with the progress the current Board of County Commissioners has accomplished over the past three years and is ready to continue making improvements in the next term.
โWe just landed a Triple-A bond rating which is huge for Charles County,โ said Collins in a recent visit to TheBAYNET.com and Baynet Radio. โThat bond rating allowed us to borrow operating funds at the lowest interest rate possible,โ he added.
Collins stated that he and the other commissioners are dedicated to continuing to support public education and to support law enforcement, but his personal focus for the coming term will be two-fold. He wants to concentrate on bringing more jobs to the county and to add affordable housing for people working in Charles County.
โSt. Maryโs County has done a good job of attracting and keeping a local workforce and we need to do the same thing in Charles,โ said Collins.
During his visit Collins touched upon many subjects including the push for a bypass around Waldorf. โI pretty much think we already have a bypass that has been mostly Charles County funded,โ said Collins referring to the newly finished Western Parkway, the St. Charles Parkway, both of which bypass the central 301 corridor through Waldorf.
The Commissioner, whose District includes Waldorf, stated that transparency for citizens is a large priority for the current Board of County Commissioners. โWe have just launched CharlesCountynews.com which is a live, up-to-the-minute source for citizens to see everything that is happening in county government.โ
In every conversation, Collins returned to his main two points for the coming term in office: job creation and affordable housing. โWe have to build our tax base which means attracting more businesses to the County which in turn will employ more people.โ
One of his goals is to create a Housing Authority that is charged with protecting citizensโ rights and to working toward better and more affordable housing for county residents. The candidate is also very open to his own personal transparency effort allowing anyone who chooses to email him to do so. โPeople may email me at my law offices at rcollins@dcmdlawyers.com or at the commissionersโ offices by emailing collinsr@chalrescounty.org.โ
